Job Description

As a Lead Materials Science Researcher, you’ll spearhead the research and development of new materials critical to enhancing the performance, scalability, and reliability of our quantum hardware. You’ll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and test materials that support our groundbreaking quantum systems. This position offers the chance to influence the next generation of quantum technology, with potential applications in scientific research and emerging industries like aerospace.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research and development of advanced materials for quantum hardware, focusing on scalability and reliability.

  • Design and characterize materials to optimize performance in quantum computing systems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (research, architecture, systems, design, product engineering, validation, and implementation) to integrate materials into system prototypes, ensuring alignment with project milestones.

  • Provide technical expertise in materials science, contributing to patentable innovations and licensing strategies.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and scientific discovery.

Requirements

Qualifications


  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in materials research, preferably for quantum computing, photonics, or high-performance hardware.

  • Proven expertise in developing and characterizing materials for advanced technological applications.

  • Strong understanding of quantum computing principles and their material requirements.

  • Experience leading interdisciplinary research teams and delivering innovative solutions.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Preferred Skills


  • Familiarity with materials for quantum systems, photonics, or trapped-ion technologies.

  • Knowledge of aerospace material requirements or quantum simulations for scientific discovery.

  • Experience with patent development or intellectual property processes, particularly for licensing initiatives.

Recruitment Process

  • Application Review: Applications received by July 23, 2025, will be reviewed starting July 29, 2025. Candidates will be notified within 5 business days if shortlisted.

  • Initial Interview: Shortlisted candidates will participate in a 30-minute virtual interview with the hiring manager, scheduled within 10 business days of notification, to discuss experience and fit.

  • Technical Assessment: Selected candidates will complete a take-home technical assignment (estimated 4-6 hours) or present a overview within 7 business days, focusing on materials for quantum applications.

  • Final Interview: Top candidates will attend a 1-hour panel interview with the engineering team, scheduled within 5 business days of assessment submission, to evaluate problem-solving and cultural alignment.

  • Offer: Successful candidates can expect a verbal offer within 3 business days of the final interview, followed by a written offer and contract negotiation.

  • Timeline: The process aims to conclude by August 15, 2025, with flexibility based on candidate availability.
